Trump says Erdogan can be part of solution for Russia-Ukraine war
“Erdogan can,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One while returning to the White House from Egypt, when asked if world leaders — particularly Erdogan — might assist in resolving the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv.
"He's respected by Russia. Ukraine, I can't tell you about, but he is respected by (Russian President Vladimir) Putin," he added.
Earlier that day, Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi convened more than 20 international leaders — including Erdogan — in the Egyptian resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh for a summit aimed at finalizing a Gaza ceasefire agreement.
Trump noted that he maintains good relations with strong-willed leaders, saying he gets along with the “tough ones,” referring to Erdogan.
According to reports, Türkiye has continued to pursue diplomatic efforts to end the war, which began in February 2022. Ankara has consistently urged both Moscow and Kyiv to resolve their differences through dialogue, expressing readiness to take part in any mediation or peace-building initiatives.
