China Calls for Global Efforts to Foster Middle East Dialogue

(MENAFN) China on Wednesday urged the global community to “actively promote dialogue” among the parties involved in the Middle East conflict.

Foreign Minister Wang Yi described the region’s situation as rapidly changing, noting that signals from the US and Iran indicate a willingness to engage in talks, which he said provides a “glimmer of hope for peace,” during a conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty.

Continuing the conflict, Wang warned, would only result in additional casualties, unnecessary losses, and wider repercussions, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

"The international community should actively promote dialogue among the conflicting parties; as long as talks continue, there is hope for peace," he emphasized.

"China supports Egypt in continuing its mediation efforts in promoting the resumption of peace talks and a halt to the war," Wang added, noting that Beijing is prepared to continue contributing constructively to these efforts.

Abdelatty voiced Egypt’s concern over the current situation, particularly the potential for attacks on energy and power infrastructure that could destabilize the broader region. He said Egypt is actively working to reduce tensions.

Since February 28, US and Israeli airstrikes on Iran have resulted in more than 1,340 casualties, including high-ranking officials. In response, Iran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, as well as Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf nations hosting US military forces, causing both human and infrastructural losses while disrupting international markets and aviation.
