Egypt’s Sisi, France’s Macron Hold Key Talks in Egypt

(MENAFN) Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi and French President Emmanuel Macron convened in Egypt on Saturday for discussions covering escalating regional tensions tied to the Iran-U.S. standoff and the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza.

The bilateral meeting took place on the margins of the inauguration ceremony for Senghor University's new campus — a French-speaking international institution — located in Egypt's New Borg El-Arab City, north of Cairo, the Egyptian Presidency confirmed in a statement.

During the session, al-Sisi outlined Egypt's active efforts to defuse regional tensions, emphasizing the imperative to protect the region from further destabilization and its ripple effects on global security, supply chains, trade routes, and transportation networks. The Egyptian leader also reaffirmed Cairo's firm commitment to preserving the security and sovereignty of Arab nations and rejecting any encroachment upon their territories or natural resources.

Macron expressed hope that ongoing regional crises would reach a swift resolution that restores peace and stability across the Middle East. On Lebanon, both leaders underscored the urgent necessity of sustaining peace and stability, while also exploring avenues for broader Mediterranean cooperation to foster shared prosperity.
