Egyptian FM Discusses US–Iran Negotiations with US Envoy Witkoff
(MENAFN) Badr Abdelatty held talks on Saturday with US presidential envoy Steven Witkoff regarding ongoing negotiations between Washington and Iran, according to a statement from Egypt’s Foreign Ministry.
During the call, both sides reviewed the status of US–Iran discussions, recent regional developments, and broader efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further escalation across the Middle East.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of de-escalation and warned against uncontrolled escalation that could threaten regional security and stability, reiterating Egypt’s support for continued diplomatic engagement and dialogue as the preferred path forward.
Witkoff, for his part, praised Egypt’s role in supporting regional stabilization efforts and expressed Washington’s interest in maintaining ongoing coordination and consultation with Cairo in the coming period.
The discussions come amid wider diplomatic activity involving multiple regional actors, including Pakistan, which has been facilitating mediation efforts between the United States and Iran aimed at reaching a broader understanding following months of conflict and intermittent ceasefire arrangements.
